Starlux Airlines Chairman and pilot, Chang Kuo-wei, is facing a possible fine for allowing a YouTuber to enter the cockpit during a flight to Los Angeles on April 26th. The Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) stated that an investigation was launched after the YouTuber, Sam Chui, posted a photo on Instagram with Chang in the cockpit without obtaining permission from the CAA. The flight is considered to be in operation as soon as cabin crew members are on board, according to CAA Flight Standards Division Director Wu Chia-jen. If found to have contravened the regulations, Chang could face a fine of NT$60,000, while the airline could be given a warning or a fine of NT$600,000.

Starlux Airlines also faced criticism for leaving more than 300 Taiwanese passengers stranded at Tokyo Narita International Airport on Saturday night, following the delay of two returning flights to Taipei due to crosswinds. Chang, who did not sleep the night before, caught a red-eye flight to Tokyo to handle the situation and later piloted one of the airline's A350 aircraft back to Taipei. However, the aviation authority launched another investigation, suspecting that Chang might have operated the aircraft while fatigued or worked overtime.

The CAA has combined both investigations into one, as Chang was involved in both cases. The agency has requested information from the company and will interview Chang for further details. According to the Aircraft Flight Operation Regulations, non-cabin crew must obtain permission from the agency before entering the cockpit, which Starlux did not request in advance, according to CAA Director-General Lin Kuo-hsien. If the investigation finds that Chui entered the cockpit during the flight to Los Angeles, Chang and the airline could be fined.

If found guilty, it would be the first penalty Starlux Airlines received since it was founded in 2018.
