· 文法跟讀單元 In-Tense

Welcome to 15mins.today the home of English Shadowing. I'm your host Gavin and this is In-Tense Episode 42. Well guys, we have started on the “noun” and so now we're going to be looking at #2 which are Proper Nouns. In episode one of the nouns we looked at common nouns the most common of them all, now we can look at proper nouns. Now proper nouns name specific persons, places or things and it's easy to recognize them, because they are always capitalized, meaning the first letter is a big letter as in a big A, like names and that is how you recognize a proper noun. How easy is that? You look at the sentence and when you see a name of something with a capital, you know that is a proper noun. If it is a noun and is smaller it might be a common noun so let's get started with our examples, and this will be quite easy I'm sure!

Drill Sentences:

Is Jane happy? No, Jane is not happy.

Is Seiko a popular brand? Yes, Seiko is a popular brand.

Is Seiko a popular brand? No, Seiko is not a popular brand.

Will he be having McDonald's? Yes, he will be having McDonald's.

Will he be having McDonald's? No, he will not be having McDonald's.

Well there you go guys, easy to spot these are the ones with the capitals. So, if it has a capital and name’s something it is a proper noun. Now just be careful, in some of those sentences I actually added a proper noun and a common noun, so for this episode though we are just interested in the proper nouns. So again, in the transcript below I will underline the proper nouns for you to make sure. Ok, catch you in the next one and bye, bye!
