每日英語跟讀 Ep.K594: Bowser's Age Revealed: The Youthful King of Koopas

Nintendo recently unveiled an intriguing fact about one of the most iconic video game villains of all time: Bowser, the notorious antagonist in the Super Mario Bros. franchise, is officially confirmed to be 34 years old. Despite relentlessly pursuing Mario and his companions since 1985, Bowser's age has remained a mystery until now, surprising fans with his relative youthfulness.

In an amusing YouTube video released by Nintendo of America, the company cleverly disclosed Bowser's age while providing instructions for creating a Nintendo Account. The video, still unlisted at the time, features Bowser himself, playfully demonstrating the process of setting up a Nintendo Account. As part of the demonstration, users are required to enter their birthdates to verify that they are at least 18 years old. Nintendo used Bowser as an example, revealing his birthdate as February 5, 1989, precisely establishing his age at 34 years old. It's remarkable to think that this turtle dragon has been menacing Mario, his friends, and Princess Peach for nearly four decades, despite his relatively young age.

Nintendo didn't stop at divulging Bowser's age; they also revealed the canonical age of his only son, Bowser Jr. When setting up a Nintendo Account for a child, Bowser Jr.'s birthdate is designated as March 3, 2010, making him 13 years old. The revelation of Bowser Jr.'s teenage status, rather than the perpetual child he has always appeared to be, adds an amusing twist to his character. It's difficult to imagine Bowser Jr. undergoing the typical changes associated with adolescence—growth spurts, a deeper voice, and the onset of acne—since we've never witnessed these developments in the game.

For those curious about the ages of other beloved characters from the Super Mario Bros. series, Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the franchise, shared in a 2005 interview that Mario and Luigi are approximately 24 or 25 years old. Astonishingly, this revelation implies that the beloved plumber brothers are twins, sharing the same age. Alongside the newfound knowledge about Bowser and Bowser Jr.'s age and the surprising revelation of Mario and Luigi being twins, the Super Mario Bros. universe continues to captivate audiences with its timeless charm and endless mysteries.
